The
following is my rant on dog food. How the quality of a dog's
diet relates directly to its overall health and well being.
As
a groomer, I am often asked to help a dog's skin condition.
"He's scratching. He smells all the time. He gets hot spots".
My
response - What do you feed your dog?
There
are very, very few commercial brands of pet foods out
there that I would consider acceptable to feed a dog or cat.
Click
HERE for reason why you should avoid
most brands.
The
ultimate diet for a canine is a balanced raw food diet.
Raw
meat, bones, vegetables, nuts, and fruits.
Like
a wolf.
Hesitant?
Are
you worried about it costing more?
If
you're buying cheap dog food from a market - shame on you!
If you purchase some of the top brands, you'll be looking
at spending maybe $20.-$40. more per month if you go raw.
You
can look forward to making that up with fewer veterinary visits.
What's
another concern?
Your
pet needs a special diet?
I
bet your veterinarian told you that. And, I bet he/she sold you
the food too. And, I bet the clinic gets kickbacks from that sale.

If
you can imagine your dog slim, with a beautiful coat, clear
skin, clean white teeth, fresh breath, and no gas - what would
stop you from having that for your four-legged companion?
Go
raw.
What
is it that would stop your from at least giving it a try
for three months just to see if it makes an improvement
in your dog's overall health and well being?
Go
raw.
I
too hesitated in making the switch for years, even though I knew
it was in my dog's best interest. I imagined adding one more
thing to do - one more mouth to prepare food for - but no,
it is not like that. It is as easy as going to a store or ordering a
delivery and stocking a shelf in the freezer with a bag of
pre-made patties or medallions. Each one containing just
the right amount of meat, bone, vegetables etc. Just take
a few from the bag to thaw and serve over the next few days.
Easy. Really easy. Feed once in the morning with a small
raw snack, like a bone or carrot or morsel of table scrap
in the evening.
At least that is now my raw food routine.
Go
raw.
I
am not saying that all skin problems and disease can be cured
simply by switching your dog to a healthier diet but I am saying
that before anything else, you must consider the greatest impact
you have on your dog's health - his diet. Go raw now.

If
you still can't go raw at this time, at the very least, consider
switching over to one of the brands of commercial pet foods
that I've used over the years that I believe to be decent.
