I was close friends with Tim for nearly a decade. We went through a great deal together. We shared moments of blinding failure, and moments of pure glory. While I did not always agree with what he said or did, I couldn't help but appreciate the way he lived his life - as true to himself as he possibly could, despite the demons.

At Tim's funeral , I reconnected with Lindsey Bell, a young lady I had introduced him to years before. After their romance came to a tumultuous end, I stayed true to Tim and hadn't spoken a word to Ms. Bell since. After an infamous Margarita Meeting among our old gang of wildlife rescuers, Ms. Bell and I vowed to tell our own story about Tim. Three years later, we had accomplished our goal.

THE BEAR DREAMER

by

Lindsey Bell & Rebecca Dmytryk

SYNOPSIS

After surviving a heroin overdose, Timothy Treadwell, a charismatic eccentric, who spent much of his life cloaked in masquerade, discovered salvation living among grizzly bears in the wilds of Alaska - a place where he felt accepted, even loved. Katmai National Park became his home, the animals - his family.

Crediting the bears for giving him purpose, for steering him from his self-destructive ways, Treadwell dedicated the rest of his life to them, living intimately, and fearlessly among the bears for more than 13 summers. He became a recognized authority on grizzlies, publishing a book, Among Grizzlies, in 1997.

While Timothy had conquered his addictions and attained recognition for his work, he continued to long for love from a woman – the type of acceptance he perceived he shared with the bears. Though a throng of female suitors trailed him, none proved more constant than his animal companions.

On October 5, 2003, a day before returning home from Alaska to Malibu, California, Treadwell and a female friend were attacked and killed by a grizzly. One of Treadwell's favorite bears, Quincey, was blamed for their deaths.

THE BEAR DREAMER is a personal account of Treadwell's life authored by two ex-girlfriends. From his early childhood to his demise, their story chronicles the life-journey of the man they knew and loved, and the person they discovered after his death.
